Welcome to Rebel Chef Radio!

Hi there! I’m Rachel Blume, your friendly neighborhood (rebel) chef! I’m not a classically trained restaurant chef and that is exactly the point. I’ve spent years figuring out to make great food the low and slow way. Lots of trial and error, lots of course correction, some epic failures and some epic victories as well. I’m here to help you do the same.

Rebel Chef Radio is my podcast. I aim for the vibe to be a fun and approachable intersection between old-school talk radio and the beloved PBS cooking shows of my childhood. I’m here to help you skip the self-doubt, build real kitchen skills, and enjoy cooking more often.

No pretense. No perfection. Just practice, pleasure, and plenty of good food.

Subscribe, pull up a chair, and let’s light the home fires.

Wait. If this is a podcast, why are we on Substack?

Great question. As much as I love to talk (and boy do I love to talk), I am a visual learner and can only assume many of you are as well. I think hearing someone who knows how to do something well explain it is very helpful, but I aim to add in a layer of understanding by having some things written down for you to reference as needed.

I’m also aware that many people lack time or patience for podcasts- I hope having my ‘companion guides’ for these episodes may help me to reach a broader audience. I also love to write, and the marriage between podcast and substack is scratching many of my creative itches all at one time.

What all can I find on here?

I’m so glad you asked. On this page you’ll find: podcast companion guides, recipes, sample menus and some creative writing that may or may not have anything to do with food.

Companion Guides:

These are condensed overviews of my monologue podcast episodes (I do an interview series called Talking Trash as well, but you’ll just have to tune in for those) along with graphics/charts/frameworks for any recipes or cooking concepts mentioned on that episode.

Recipes:

These are fairly self explanatory. I have a lot of recipes saved in a lot of places. I’m typically very well organized but for some reason when it comes to my recipes, I’m a leaf on the wind. I’m slowly bringing my scattered collection all to one place starting with the recipes I specifically discuss on my show.

Sample Menus:

I used to run a lovely little neighborhood meal service from 2022 to 2024. Each week I would put together a menu (usually whatever I was in the mood to eat that week) and folks who subscribed to the service would order from it. I still have all of the menus (and the little musings that accompanied them in my weekly emails) saved on an old website and thought I’d bring them over here. I think they can serve as inspiration for anyone looking to build a menu for an event or just a regular old meal plan. Plus- I get to have them all organized in one place for my own nostalgia.

Creative Writing

I have enjoyed creative writing since I was a kid, and while I don’t spend nearly as much time on it these days as I’d like, it’s something I hope will organically become a bigger facet of my life (especially with increased time spent on substack). I may or may not share old short stories that I’ve written in my angsty youth, or create something entirely new. Stay tuned!

That about sums it up! Questions? Comments? Concerns? Feel free to shoot me an email anytime at rachel@rebelchefcooking or talk to me on instagram (@rebelchefdg).

xoxo
